Dr Leah Deutsch
BMBS LLB MRCOG
I am a consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, currently working in the NHS. I completed my specialist training in North East London and have worked throughout the region as a doctor since graduating from medical school in 2008.
I have an interest in acute gynaecology, early pregnancy and advanced labour ward practice. I am a member of the Royal College for Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and am on the GMC Specialist Register.
I am passionate about providing post natal care that is tailored to an individuals need, which can often be more difficult to access in a resource poor public system.
My years of professional practice and my own personal experience as a parent has consolidated my drive and passion to try to provide a better service for women particularly in the sometimes more challenging postnatal period, so that they feel supported and heard.
In addition to the above I am also a qualified advanced yoga teacher, specialising in yoga for women’s health and have created several online educational resources. This gives me a more rounded and holistic approach in the care I offer.
Having a child, whether it’s your first or sixth, is most likely one of the most emotionally, physically and mentally challenging things you will ever go through but also monumentally life changing in the most incredible way. Having the right people to support you as you embark on this journey can shift your whole experience.
As an experienced obstetrician my aim is to ensure your postnatal care is supportive and comprehensive, whilst recognising that your birth may have been traumatic and you may need a little more time to discuss certain aspects. Your postnatal review can be led by what you need from it, but can include:
Review of your pregnancy and birth experience and exploration of any complications
General physical examination including blood pressure check, abdominal and pelvic examination
Bloods or microbiology samples if required (at an additional cost)
Assessment for abdominal separation (diastasis recti)
Wound review and management (if relevant)
Discussion around any incontinence or pelvic floor concerns and referral to women’s health physiotherapist if required.
Advice around returning to exercise
Contraceptive advice and prescription if required
Exploration of your emotional wellbeing
Discussion relating to any feeding concerns and referral to lactation consultant if required.
